Brace yourselves, at Rs 501 the ChampOne C1 is another dirt cheap phone

The promise of the Great Indian Cheap Smartphone is always around the corner what with Ringing Bell’s Freedom 251 and Namotel and Mango mPhones trying to live up to that hype. But here’s another discreet Indian company trying to make a splash at this niche market.
The ChampOne C1, a smartphone with fingerprint scanner, quad-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity is launching with a price tag of Rs. 501. But hold your horses because, as always, there’s a catch.
The phone by ChampOne Communications isn’t actually priced Rs 501. Instead, its pretty reasonably priced at Rs 8,000. But the company is giving away the phones for that throwaway price only to a select few chosen for the first flash sale scheduled September 2.
The outrageous price tag is just another marketing gimmick by an unknown company trying to make a headway into the unforgiving smartphone market, and a smart one at that!
All you have to do is head over to their website, www.champ1india.com, fill out the form and register for the flash sale. You will be given a unique code which you will need on the day of the flash sale.
The ChampOne C1 is a 5-inch smartphone with a HD IPS display powered by a 1.3-GHz MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM with 16GB of onboard expandable storage. There’s an 8-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel camera in the front, a 2,500 mAh battery and of course, a fingerprint reader. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and priced at Rs 501? Yeah right!
At the time of writing this, the registration link in the website is broken, with a message displaying, “We are facing technical issue with out payment gateway partner [Ccavenue (Avenue India Pvt. Ltd.)]. You would not be able to register for the application for the next 24 hours.
